2.1.2 start crashes on Ubuntu 9.10

I tried installing 2.1.2 on Ubuntu 9.10 in two ways with the same result:

I first installed from the linux binary, then I got to install the .deb package available for next Ubuntu release named "Lucid".

The error I get in both cases when starting the server:

$ sudo ejabberdctl start
Failed RPC connection to the node 'ejabberd@poor-kid': {'EXIT',
{badarg,
[{ets,lookup,
[local_config,
ejabberdctl_access_commands]},
{ejabberd_config,
get_local_option,1},
{ejabberd_ctl,
get_accesscommands,
0},
{ejabberd_ctl,
process,1},
{rpc,
'-handle_call/3-fun-0-',
5}]}}

2.0.5 works fine, but I'm having serious problems with pubsub, so I need to upgrade to 2.1.2 really really badly

Thanks
