Talk/IM between 2 ejabberd servers

Hi All,

I am fairly new to XMPP/ejabberd.

So i have 2 ejabberd servers...i have user ast@ejaabberd-one.com and pqr@ejabberd-two.com.
I want to use an XMPP client/library so that i connect to ejabberd-one.com from one client and to ejabberd-two.com from second client.

Can these 2 clients send IM to each other using these 2 ejabberd servers as a medium.

I believe federation works like this.

Can someone throw some light on how this works.
