Howto do external authentication in ejabbered 2.0.2

hi all,

i am a newbie to ejabbered. I changed the authentication to extauth and gave a php script which checks for the authentication. But i think the script is not working. How can i check if my script is working fine or not ? And what settings do i need to do for setting up external authentication.
