I have a question about some functionality of group chat and MUCs. I'm looking for a way to be able send a chat to multiple people in a predefined group. The initiator of the chat does not necessarily need to be part of the group. Once the chat is initiated the members of the target group and the initiator are all automatically placed into a group chat window and can converse with each other until the chat is concluded and window gets closed.
I suppose I'm looking for something similar to how email groups work but in chat.
Is this something that can be setup in ejabberd? Other options?

Not possible to force users
Not possible to force users to join a chatroom.
But a user can send invitations to other people to join a given room. Then each people decides to join or not the room. All this is client-side. Popular clients like Psi, Gajim, Tkabber... allow to send invitations, receive them, etc.
