Connect with IP-address

Hi, im new to jabber and just installed it. When in configure it I have to give a hostname. When i take a jabber client and connect to it with my "hostname" in my network, then all works fine. When i use the IP-address it cannot connect. Do I have to use some "port" in in the server field of the client?

Problem is, that my server-network-IP-address is another then the IP-adress from the "outside" (internet). And i want to connect from both. ;)

thx alot, froggy
