The DNS servers timed out

My ejabberd server is connected to only one other server.
It was working fine, but now I cannot talk to people on that other server, and the logs say:

=ERROR REPORT==== 2010-06-28 15:07:50 ===
E(<0.13820.0>:ejabberd_s2s_out:1075) : The DNS servers
[{{72,3,128,240},53},{{72,3,128,241},53}]
timed out on request for "ive.removed.that" IN SRV. You should check your DNS configuration.

When ejabberd wants to connect to "ive.removed.that", it asks your DNS servers what is the IP address of "ive.removed.that". Those DNS servers don't reply.

You can try some solutions:

  • Check if those are the correct DNS servers that ejabberd should query. Maybe your ISP or network admin changed the DNS servers location. If those aren't the correct ones, change your network configuration in the machine.
  • Check if those DNS servers are really working, maybe they got disconnected
  • Configure in your machine what is the IP address of "ive.removed.that". For example, in Linux, I could add the line "123.45.67.89 ive.removed.that" to the file /etc/hosts.

I don't know if it means

I don't know if it means anything but doing "ping ive.removed.that" works fine, so doesn't that mean that the DNS server is working?

Also, it went back up by itself today, went down for a little bit ...
