Ejabberd performance and scalability

Hi, I'm currently looking for a Jabber server and have heard that ejabberd is great for scalability. What I can't find is what kind of performance I can achieve.

If I want to run with 50,000 concurrent users what kind of set up would be required? If this were to increase into the hundreds of thousands would ejabberd be able to scale to this magnitude given the right hardware?

I also need to know what kind of stability ejabberd offers. Would it be possible to set up a server with the figures I mentioned above, or is ejabberd not at that stage currently?

Thanks,
Josh
